The photographs and master prints were made at Yaddo, Saratoga Springs,
NY; the edition prints were made in my darkroom in Kensington, MD. One
of my goals while at Yaddo was to break away from the hard borders
usually forced on photographs by the edges of film, paper, and frames.
Techniques I developed at Yaddo during the 'Great Blizzard of '93'
are the ones employed here.
The model is Dari, of Glens Falls, NY.

These photographs were taken from 1992-94, and are the series known as WaterWorks. The locations are along the Merrimack River as it wends its way 116 miles from southern New Hampshire's Lake Winnipesaukee through a series of falls to Newburyport, Massachusetts on the Atlantic Ocean. The power of falling water has been used to power mills since the beginning of the 19th century when this area became the birthplace of the Industrial Revolution.Milking the Welsh Hills Waukesha County, Wisconsin (1994-95)(edition of 100)Farm on DT - family owned for 130 years View from Rees' hill - looking South to Jarmon Road and County DT Farm on County NN at Mukwonago View from Lapham Peak - looking Southeast to Wisconsin 83 and County G (panorama) Welsh Cemetery - Bryn Road Bryn Road - nr. Welsh men and women came to the County in the 1840's to launch another part of America's dairy history; after five or six generations, many farms are still family owned. Today's farms are threatened by developers due to rising land prices (up to $50,000/acre perked) and their central location between Milwaukee to the east, Madison to the west, and Chicago to the south. The High Desert, 1995-97 (edition of 100)Stairs, Furnace Creek Inn, Death Valley Natl. This region contains ghost towns, and other sites which contain relics of the old west. Mining camps and gold and other mines (some working) exist here, as do once profitable mines which were part of the California Gold Rush of 1849. Also in the area are numerous federal and military reservations, including the Nevada Test Site, which exploded their last atomic weapon in 1992.Battlefield Parks Fields of Blood, Rivers of Tears (1996- ) (toned silver prints in Boxed set - edition of 40 or archival Giclée prints - editions of 150) cover sheet
